Son Trinh
Son Trinh
Physiotherapist

Coming from the land of maple syrup and overly polite beavers, Son brings a bubbly positive attitude along with an (almost) annoying enthusiasm for helping others! He spent most of his life as a competitive athlete representing Canada in Jiu-Jitsu at the Can-Am, Pan-Am Games and other international competitions. He was also a varsity volleyball player for his college and university before settling on professional tennis where he trained at IMG Bollieterri Tennis Academy and toured the world playing (rather poorly!) before he realised his future was better in healthcare and helping others achieve their dreams.

After 9 years working as a classically trained French chef, Son made the plunge into physiotherapy moving halfway across the world to complete his Doctor of Physiotherapy degree at the University of Melbourne in 2019!

Son has a background in high performance strength and conditioning and sports medicine having worked with the women’s and men’s Canadian National Field Hockey Team for 4 years, as a head athletic trainer for the University of British Columbia working with the men’s field hockey, rugby, volleyball and women’s soccer and field hockey teams for 5 years. He is currently working with the Melbourne University Lightning Netball Club as a physiotherapist and strength coach and as the head physiotherapist and strength coach for Power House Amateur Football Club. He also worked 2 years with the Melbourne Rebels development squad, Rugby Victoria, and also currently covers A-League soccer matches with Football Australia.

When Son is not in the clinic or on the field/court helping others achieve their best, he is likely being chased by a family of possums or forcing his cats to love him (without any luck). You can also find him in the wild cycling the streets of Melbourne (likely shaking his fist at cars), running 21.1km races at a slugs pace, on the tennis court getting run silly by the next top junior players, or at the St. Kilda beach volleyball courts desperately trying to get sand out from all his crevices for days.

He utilises creative injury-specific rehab principles to rebuild your capacity so you can return to do things you love. Lastly, he emphasises self-management and education for better sustainability and to prevent future re-injuries.
